When the telephone was invented a century and a half ago, the public wasn’t ready for it. They were skeptical and thought it was just a toy, or a fad. The technology itself required years of tinkering by various people, including of course Alexander Graham Bell himself, until it became functional enough to spread and change the world. But perfect it they did; and change the world it did as well.
